Collins’ meeting with Lloyd George – 5 December 1921

Typescript minute by Michael Collins of his interview with Prime Minister David Lloyd George on 5 December 1921 based on the four points of difference – essential unity of Ireland, oath of allegiance, defence and trade – which were raised at 3 December’s Cabinet meeting in Dublin. The meeting concludes with Lloyd George stating that were clauses 1 and 2 (the dominion status clauses that would bring Ireland within the empire) of the draft agreement accepted, then further action could be delayed until the matter was submitted to the Dáil and the country.
